Error: "Database does not exist" when upgrading core server

    Issue

    • The Core server upgrade will fail with the error: the database does not exist or could not be contacted.
    • Install fails when connecting to the SQL database during the Database upgrade portion of the install.

     

    Cause

    The user was not aliased as DBO in the database.

     

    Resolution

    1. From SQL Server Enterprise Manager, click to expand the Security folder
    2. Right-click the Logins icon and click on New Login
    3. The General tab appears in the SQL Server Login Properties - New Login window
    4. Type a username in the Name field
    5. Click on the SQL Server Authentication radio button
    6. Type the password for this account in the Password field
    7. Click on the database previously created from the Database drop-down list
    8. Click OK
    9. The Confirm Password window appears
    10. Re-type the password in the Confirm New Password field
    11. Click OK
    12. An Error message appears
    13. Click Yes
    14. Click Tools | SQL Server Query Analyzer
    15. The SQL Query Analyzer window appears
    16. Click on the database previously created from the Database drop-down list
    17. Type SP_ADDALIAS USERNAME, DBO in the Query pane
      NOTE: The USERNAME is the name entered in step 3 of this procedure
    18. Click Query | Execute
    19. The user is aliased into the database as a DBO
    20. 15. Select File | Exit
    21. 16. Click No
