Error: "Unable to establish a secure session with the remote computer (-5)."

    Issue

     

    The user is logging into the console with the domain account and attempting to Remote Control a workstation when the following error occurs:

     

    "Unable to establish a secure session with the remote computer (-5)."

     

    Resolution

     

    1. On the core server, open Administrative Tools-->Component Services-->Component Services-->Computers-->My Computer-->COM+ Applications-->LANDesk (and LANDesk1) Right-click the object and click on Properties.
    2. Open the Identity tab and change the "LANDeskComPlus" user to a valid user on the domain. A valid user is one that has read access to Active Directory. Enter the password or reenter the password if a domain user is already present.
    3. Click the "Advanced" tab, and put a dot in the "Leave running when Idle" radio button. This will prevent the COM+ object from shutting down after it starts and should resolve the issue. Click OK
    4. Right-click both landesk and landesk1, choosing shutdown. Then Right click each and choose start.

     

    If the issue is not corrected then the core may need to be rebooted as shutting down and starting com+ objects doesn't always clear their cache.
