How can I get a Symbol barcode scanner to work?

    Question:


    I have purchased a Symbol Windows Mobile based barcode scanner.  When I install the Barcode client onto it, the barcode light never comes on.  How can I get this to work?  

     

     

    Answer:


    Symbol devices require special code to get them to activate their barcode scanners.  Other scanners do not have any special needs, the scanners come on when you activate them.

    When you install the Barcode Client on the scanner's host PC, (BarcodeClientInstall.exe is found on the core server in the \Program Files (X86)\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\ldlogon\MP_PACKAGES directory), the symbol version of the client to install on the scanner is found in the \Program Files\Managed Planet\Barcode Client\Mobile Installs directory. 

    The file name is Managed Planet Barcode Mobile Client - Symbol.CAB. Before you install that file on the scanner, you will  need to get a zipped group of library files from the Symbol Mobility Developer Kit for .Net.

    The file you want to download is SMDK-M-1.06.08-P1.zip. Unzip the files and navigate to the SMDK-M-1.06.08-P1\SMDK-M-1.06.08-P1\SDK\Smart Devices\Deployment directory.

    Copy the symbol.all.arm.cab to the scanner and install it.  

    Now copy the Managed Planet Barcode Mobile Client - Symbol.CAB file from the host device to the scanner and install it.

    On the barcode device run Start > Programs > Barcode Mobile Client

    The barcode device will now be configured to use
