How To: Create a filter to see Child or Parent IPC as a tab

Version 3

    How To:

In this article we are going to review how to display child and parent records as a tab for any IPC using filters.

    Step by Step:

The below example is done on Incident, but this can be done on any module, just make sure that you select the relevant linking object to Filter By.

First of all, for both Parent and Child create a new Filter as follows:

    1. Display Parents on a Child IPC

If you want to see Parent Incidents on a Child Incident, add attribute from the “Parent” attribute

Set up Attributes - Display Parents.png

In Criteria add the following: Child is Equal To (Incident)

You get this value by dragging “[]-[] Child” on to the Criteria panel, selecting “Specify Runtime Value” and then click OK WITHOUT ticking anything in the list as shown below.

    2. Display Children on a Parent IPC

If you want to see Child Incidents on a Parent Incident add attributes from the “Child” attribute.

In Criteria add the following: Parent is Equal To (Incident)

You get this value by dragging “[]-[] Child” on to the Criteria panel, selecting “Specify Runtime Value” and then click OK WITHOUT ticking anything in the list as shown below.

         3. Last step: Set the launch option

For the software to know how to open the record, we need to specify this in the "General" tab from the left.

In the "Launch Option", select the "Workspace" record in the "Launch" drop-down list and ensure that "Using data from" is populated with "Incident Incident" in this scenario. (Cf. screenshot below)

If the step 3 is not performed, we might face an error message upon clicking on a record from the query tab: There is an error in XML document (1, 1)

We might face as well the following issue in the same context: Problem / Solution: Error when launching IPC from a Query in WebDesk "GUID should contain 32 digits with 4 dashes"
