SQL - Enable Isolation mode to prevent deadlock issues

Version 1

    If you are running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008, you must have snapshot isolation mode turned on in order to run Avalanche. In most instances, the Avalanche installer will perform this task automatically during installation. However, if there are open connections to the database, the installer will not be allowed to set this. In that case, you must manually set this to enabled.

    To enable snapshot isolation mode:

    1) Ensure there are no other open connections to the database. This includes stopping the Avalanche enterprise server. The connection used to set these options must be the only open connection.

    2) From SQL Management Studio, run the following lines:
    ALTER DATABASE [avalanche53] SET ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION ON; ALTER DATABASE [avalanche53] SET READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT ON;

    3) Restart the Avalanche enterprise server.

    If you run Avalanche (with a SQL Server database) without enabling snapshot isolation mode, the enterprise server may deadlock.
