    • (May 20, 2008) KB936929 - Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3, Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers' experience with the operating system. Windows XP Service Pack 3 is an update to Windows XP that addresses feedback from our customers. In addition to previously released updates, SP3 contains changes focused on addressing specific reliability and performance issues, supporting new types of hardware, and adding support for several emerging standards.     Known Issues

    • Windows XP SP3 cannot be installed if you have the following updates installed on your computer:

    • o Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit

    • o Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) 6.0 MUI pack (Update 925877 for Windows XP)

     

                   Please uninstall these updates before you install Windows XP SP3. For more information, please view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

     

    • o 949388 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949388/) Windows XP Service Pack 3 installation fails with an error message, and the following error is logged in the service pack installation log: "8007F0F4 - STATUS_PREREQUISITE_FAILED"

    • A rebooting problem related to the release of the Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3\ is continuing to cause problems with certain Hewlett-Packard desktops that use AMD processors. Microsoft is working on fixing the problems. LANDesk will create content for the patch when it is released.

    • On some hardware configurations, you may encounter the Windows XP SP3 BSoD Endless Reboot Loop with Stop c0000139 on GDI32.dll Error. Shashank Bansal explained in TechNet forums\ that the issue happens when users install SP3 with build version v.3311 or v.3244 or earlier. A security update KB948590\ (MS08-021) which contains updated and newer GDI32.dll stops installation of SP3 version of GDI32.dll on the system due to file version differences. Hence the system encounters conflict and stop halt. If users doesn't disable the setting to reboot the computer on error, the Windows will force to restart. follow below steps to repair your XP installation:

     

                   1. Boot from a Windows CD and go for the repair option.

     

                   2. Copy gdi32.dll from c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\gdi32.dll to c:\windows\system32\gdi32.dll. (Do keep a backup copy of the old gdi32.dll in c:\windows\system32 directory)

     

     

                   3. Reboot normally

     

     

                     

     

     

                     

     

    • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 is currently undergoing testing with the LANDesk agent. However, the testing has not been completed at this time. Any issues with the LANDesk agent which are a result of applying the service pack need to be reported to LANDesk customer support so they can be addressed.
