    LANDESK Management Suite 9.6

Best Known Method to place location information, by gateway, into the LANDesk Database using LANDesk Data Analytics

The reason you may want to do this, is to query (based on location) or add location information to queries and reports.

The first step is to look at the current list of Gateways in the database, prior to updating the information.

Look at the table which has a list of Gateways

    1. On the LANDesk Core Server (with Data Analytics), click Start | All Programs | LANDesk | Data Analytics | Map IP Gateways to Location.

(The default internet browser opens the file. Just for the record, the file is located at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Managed Planet\AddressMapweb.url)

    2. Count the number of rows of represented IP Gateways. This is our beginning number, before updates.

    3. Close the default internet browser.

You have seen the table that has a list of Gateways before it has been updated.

The next step is to Update the Gateway table list to include ALL Gateways in the LANDesk database.

Update the Gateway table list to include all Gateways in the LANDesk database

    4. On the LANDesk Core Server (with Data Analytics), in the LANDesk Console, click Tools | Data Analytics | Data Translation Services.  (The Data Translation Services tool opens in the bottom pane.)

    5. Click Data Translation Services | SQL Command | All Rules. (The rules open in the right pane.)

Note: SQL Command in DTS is no longer available. You can still run the rule with the following command either in a batch or managed script: C:\Program Files\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\MPRunSched.exe /RULENAME="Update IP Gateway to Location List"

    6. Right-click Update IP Gateway to Location List, and click Run Now. (The Perform Operation window appears.)

    7. Click [Start]. (The rule runs. It is completed when the Messages field reads “Finished rule Update IP Gateway to Location List”.)

    8. Click [Close]. (The Perform Operation window closes.)

    9. Click Start | All Programs | LANDesk | Data Analytics | Map IP Gateways to Location. (The default internet browser opens the file.)

    10. Count the number of rows of represented IP Gateways. This is our final number, after updates. (There is likely a difference between the answer obtained in step 2, and step 10, because all gateway information for each item scanned into the LANDesk database is now listed.)

You have seen the table that has a list of Gateways after it has been updated.

The next step is to fill out the Gateway table list to include additional location information.

Fill out the Gateway table list to include additional location information

    11. In the default internet browser, locate each line you wish wish to populate with new information and click the [Edit] button to the left of it.

    12. Add all pertinent information (such as Address, City, Country, MailStop, Pole, State/Province, ZipCode, Building, SiteCode, and Floor).

    13. Scroll all the way to the left and click the [Update] button on each row that has add information. (Each line will include the data which you added.)

    14. Close the default internet browser.

You have now added location data to the Gateway list table for import into the Database.

The final step is to import the additional data into the database.

Import additional Gateway table information into the Database

    15. On the LANDesk Core Server (with Data Analytics), in the LANDesk Console, click Tools | Data Analytics | Data Translation Services. (The Data Translation Services tool opens in the bottom pane.)

    16. Click Data Translation Services | Import Data | All Rules. (The rules open in the right pane.)

    17. Right-click IP Gateway to Address and click Run Now. (The Perform Operation window appears.)

    18. Click [Start]. (The rule runs. It is complete when the Message field displays, “Finished rule IP Gateway to Address” and the [Close] button appears.)

    19. Click [Close]. (The Perform Operation window closes.)

Now with the information added, and updated, refresh the network view in the LANDesk Console. If you view the Inventory (by double-clicking) any of the devices listed, you can go to the Computer | Location field and see the addition data added from the Gateway table. You can now add this information to a column set, and query.
