The xml files for the metadata cache are located at the following drive locations:
On the client PC the cache for Console:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user-name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Touchpaper
On 2008 server and vista the files can be found under
On the server the files are located (used by Console and Portal):
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Application Data\Touchpaper
On 2008 server the same files can be found under
These folders will contain folders with XML files used to store metadata, a backup of these files should be taken before removing the files and folders from these locations. The files will be created again when Service Portal or Console are run. This should not be done while to system is in use and an IISReset should be done before the files are removed.
It is a good idea to turn off caching whilst making design changes (windows, queries, etc) and then turn it on again later. The metadata cache can be turned off by adding the following key to console.exe.config or Portal's web.config. If the key already exist it would need to be change to the following, to turn this back on the value would have to be changed from False to True.
<add key="ClientMetadataCaching" value="False" />
This would require an IISreset reset for the Portal Configuration.
