How Do I Configure Mobile Client Access?

Version 5

    If you have iPad clients connecting to your Xtraction server, changes need to be made depending on the authentication method used to connect to Xtraction.

    NOTE: Logon details are passed to the Xtraction server in plain text. It would be best to setup SSL on the Xtraction server and connect iPad clients using HTTPS.

    General Settings

    Ensure the “Mobile access permitted” checkbox is selected in the Xtraction settings tool:

    Check the 'Mobile Enabled' checkbox for the desired authentication types:

    Windows Integrated Authentication

    If Xtraction is configured for Windows Integrated Authentication, complete the following steps:

    1. Update directory security in IIS allowing anonymous access to the Mobile folder
    2. Update the web.config with the following settings:
    <location path="Mobile"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow users="*" /> </authorization> </system.web> </location>

    Local Xtraction Authentication

    If Xtraction is configured for Local Xtraction Authentication, complete the following steps:

    1. Update the web.config with the following settings:
    <forms loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" name=".XTRACTION" cookieless="UseCookies" />

    Mobile Application Usage

    1) On the mobile device, navigate to the main Xtraction URL.

              NOTE: Keep in mind, this is NOT the URL from Xtraction Settings > Authentication > Mobile URL (i.e. "http://localhost/Xtraction/Auth/Local/AuthenticateMobile.aspx").  If you attempt to navigate to that URL, you will get an error message stating "Unable to retrieve the list of providers, please check the server url."  On the mobile app, you need to navigate to the main (or 'root') level application, allowing you to choose an authentication type.

    2) Once you are logged into the Xtraction application, you will notice that it is read-only.  Dashboard design is meant to be performed on the full web application.  Common uses for the mobile app would be to access favorite dashboards quickly, email them as attachments, or set it to cycle through the list of favorite dashboards.
