    Introduction

    When the Client Communication Agent (CCA) updates an endpoint to install/uninstall an agent, it may cause the machine to reboot more than once to complete the installation. There needs to be a minimum of two reboots to install an agent, but in certain situations, there may be more. Users will not be able to login to the endpoint until all installations have been completed.

    The CCA will install all agents and pre-requisites at machine startup. The initial reboot, requested by the CCA, is required to get the machine into this state so that the installs can take place. The initial reboot is requested by the CCA via either the postpone dialog, the countdown dialog or automatically, if there are no logged in users.

    Detail

    When downgrading an agent to an earlier version, the CCA must uninstall the newer version so that Windows will allow the earlier version to be installed. When the agent is uninstalled, the installer requests that the machine must be rebooted prior to another install taking place. This results in an extra reboot during the update phase.

     

    NOTE: In addition, if an agent pre-requisite requests a reboot, this will be done prior to installing the agent. (Current agent pre-requisites do not require a reboot)

     

    The reboot sequence for the CCA is as follows:

     

    Installing an agent:
    Reboot to perform the install (requested by CCA)
    ·         Install any pre-requisites*
    ·         Install new agent
    Reboot complete the install (requested by installer)
     

    Downgrading an agent:

    Reboot to perform the downgrade (requested by the CCA)

    ·         Uninstall existing agent

    ·         Install any pre-requisites*

    Reboot to complete the uninstall (requested by installer)

    ·         Install new agent

    Reboot to complete the install (requested by installer)

    Upgrading an agent:

    Reboot to perform the upgrade (requested by the CCA)

    ·         Install pre-requisites*

    ·         Install new agent

    Reboot to complete the install (requested by installer)

    Delete machine:

    Reboot to perform the deletion (requested by the CCA)

    ·         Uninstall the agents

    Reboot to complete the uninstall (requested by installer)
