Pop-up Allow List ADM/x policy fails to apply within Internet Explorer 9

    When using Internet Explorer (IE) 9, the following ADM/x policy for the "Pop-up allow list" fails to populate, and the Registry is not updated:

    User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Component\Internet Explorer\Pop-up allow list



    This is a Microsoft limitation of Iinternet Explorer 9 (IE9), and the same issue occurs when using native Windows GPO.

    The 'Allow' sub-key located below is not created as default in IE9 and only appears when manually adding a site:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows\Allow

    The issue is not seen in IE8 and earlier versions.


    A workaround is to use the below actions at Logon within EM policy:

    Create Registry Key Action:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows\Allow 

    followed by a 'Set registry Value' action for:


    Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\New Windows\Allow 


    Value Name: www.site.com


    Value Type: REG_BINARY


    Value Data: 00 00
