SCU Error - Failed to load product definition xml for product 'Management Server'

    Introduction

    When opening the Management Server Configuration Utility [SCU] the following error is raised 

    "Failed to load product definition xml for product 'Management Server'" followed by "The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002).

    When the SCU opens it shows 5 variances for:

    1 : Database schema version is out of date

    2: All 4 services show The service is installed in the wrong location

     

    NOTE: If you see this issue it does not impact on the Management Center Functionality. The error is visual and specific to the SCU.

     

    Detail

    This issue has been observed when the Start Menu shortcut for the Management Server Configuration Utility has an incorrect UNC path:

     

    EXAMPLE: \\servername\c$\Program Files\AppSense

    Rather than the actual installed location, which by default is C:\Program Files\AppSense.

     

    To rectify this issue carry out one of the following:

    • Correct the Start Menu shortcut Target path
    • Manually launch the ServerConfiguration.exe from the local install folder

    Once one of the above is carried out, all of the previous 'variances' are resolved.
