Unable to launch the Server Configuration Utility [SCU]

    When attempting to launch the SCU to configure the AppSense services and database, the GUI does not launch although the process does spawn in the background and can be seen in Task Manager.


    There is likely an issue with the SCU configuration files which can cause other issues, such as a failed upgrade of the database.
    To resolve the issue you will need to make sure that there are no instances of the SCU running (ServerConfiguration.exe) and to then browse to the bin directory in the installation directory of the product that is failing to execute the SCU.
    The default locations are:
    • Personalization Server: C:\Program Files\AppSense\Environment Manager\Personalization Server\bin
    • Management Server: C:\Program Files\AppSense\Management Center\Server\Bin

    CAUTION: Before carrying out the following, ensure you have all the necessary Account and Database information

    Within this directory, you will find a folder named ActiveProductDefinition, rename this ActiveProductDefinition folder to back it up.

    Once the folder has been renamed, re-launch the SCU and it should now run correctly and launch the Set-up Wizard.
    You will now need to reconfigure the settings of the database connectivity for that server.

    NOTE: Renaming this folder is essentially performing a "Factory Reset" of the server configuration and can resolve a number of problems.
