Version 1

    Details

    - When creating a new contact record with Copy current record, switching to a different record type will not display the related record type view, but remain on the current view

    [STEPS TO REPLICATE]
    In a US demo database
    1. Browse to the Car record 348JQ541
    2. New Record Button.
    3. Select 'Copy current record'
    4. Observe/Verify if the current New Record view changes

    [RESULT]
    - The original view will not change and is related to the Other record type although the Record Type was changed from Other to Car and Car has a completely different Primary view assigned

    5.  Switch Record type to another type , for example: Prospect and recognize that the record layout stays the same
    6. Switch now back to the Car record type
    7. Observe/Verify if the current New Record view changes

    [RESULT]
    -
Now the record type view for Car is applied and changed

    Resolution

    [CAUSE]
In The Record Type Administration Center the 'Use a  default record type when creating new records' option is set, so regardless if the underlying record is a 'Car' or a different record type, it will  always default to the record type 'Other' and it's related 'New Contact  record' view in the first place. Only after changing to a different record type and then back the desired record type view is applied.

    [RESOLUTION/VERIFICATION]
    a. Verify that the setting
Use a  default record type when creating new records option is set
    1. Log in with master rights
    2. Tools > Configure > Record Types
    3. Browse to Record Type Rules
    4. Right Click > Edit
    5. Verify if Record Type for new company / contact is set to 'Use a default record type when creating new records'

    b. If applicable and desired change the option to 'When creating a new record, automatically us the current record type in view'.
    1. Log in with master rights
    2. Tools > Configure > Record Types
    3. Browse to Record Type Rules
    4. Right Click > Edit
    5.  Set the option When creating a new record, automatically use the  current record type in view for the section Record Type for new company /  contact

    6. OK
    7. From the Record Type Administration Tool bar > Apply Changes (4th icon)
    8. Verify the behavior again

    [ADDITIONAL NOTES]
    - The setting 'Record type for new company/contact' option is only available when using 'Field value-based' Rule definitions in the Record Type Administration Center, it is not available when using 'dBase Expression result-based' or 'Inactive (disable rules)'
