Version 1

    Details

When copying HTML emails or articles into GoldMine Notes. They are appearing either different from the original format or are missing certain items. What is the reason for this behavior?

    [SCENARIO]
    - Original Email generated within Outlook which uses Microsoft  Word as the Email editor (please see additional information from KM Article  # 17512)

    Resolution

    [INFORMATION]
    A. Copy and paste the original email from it's email view into the HTML enabled Notes field of a GoldMine Contact record

    1. Open the Email or html file in read mode
    2. Highlight the full Email and copy it via CTRL+A followed by CTRL+C
    3.  Browse to the desired contact record's Notes tab (pre-requisit is that  Notes are html enabled, via Tools > Configure > System  Settings > Display Tab > Notes format set to HTML)
    4.  Add Button > Note
    5. Paste the content of the Windows Clipboard into the new note
    6. Save the Note via the yellow Save button

    [RESULT]

    - The original HTML formatting is lost, for example fonts, colors but all items including the numbering is available
    - This is an intended behavior by GoldMine, many times only the real  information of such an Email is necessary to be kept in the notes and  additional formatting is not necessary.

    B. Copy and Paste the original HTML Code into the HTML enabled Notes field of a GoldMine Contact record
    1.  Open the source code of an Email which may require additional steps for  example from within GoldMine > Right Click on the Email > View in Web browser > further right click in the browser window > View (page) source
    2. Highlight the full code and copy it via CTRL+A followed by CTRL+C
    3.  Browse to the desired contact record's Notes tab (pre-requisit is that  Notes are html enabled, via Tools > Configure > System  Settings > Tab Display > Notes format set to HTML)
    4.  Add Button > Note
    5. Activate the HTML Code view via Right click into note > Edit HTML Source
    6. Click into the notes > mark all via CTRL+A
    5. Paste the content of the Windows Clipboard into the new note which is the HTML code from the original email
    6. Save the Note via the yellow Save button

    [RESULT]

    - The original HTML formatting is kept, for example fonts, colors, signatures etc.
    - Certain formatting or items might be lost, for example numbering of  lists and all items which cannot be interpreted correctly by the  underlying HTML interpreter by GoldMine (mshtml.dll - see also KM  Article # 17512). This often happens when original Emails were created  by Microsoft Outlook as Outlook uses Microsoft Word as Email editor  which has it's own different HTML interpreter. All items which can be  interpreted by the mshtml.dll are displayed in the same manner as the  original Email, all items which cannot be interpreted are removed or  interpreted in a different style/format (for the above example this is  the numbering which will be removed as the underlying HTML code will  force the removal of the numbering when it is not supported by the HTML  interpreter)
