Is there any way to setup user's with only a Read-only role? For example, the possibility to open an additional contacts but not change them?

Version 1

    Details

Is there any way to setup user's with only a Read-only role? For example, the possibility to open an additional contacts but not change them?

Currently, view only user can see the contact/title/reference/phone but are unable to double click and open the Additional Contact
and see further data e.g. address or notes etc.

It would be desired to open the additional contact window without providing the user possibility to change something

    Resolution

    Current Situation:

    A. when taking away the Edit Tab Folders right away from the user via
Tools >> User Settings >> on a certain User >> Properties >> Access tab >> Contact Record area
the user does not have the possibility to open the Additional Contact Record by a double click and will see only the available columns  B. There is no possibility in GoldMine to adjust the columns on this tab so that the user may see more information  C. Contact Ownership via
e.g. create a User Group via Tools >> User Groups >> New >> create a new user group and
add Users via the Members Setup button and then further set all or certain Contact Records' Ownership to the user group via
Edit >> Record Properties >> Record-related Settings... >> tab Ownership >> Set the Owned by to the user group and
    leave Record Curtaining to None
will not lead to the desired goal, as also then the user has no possibility to open the Additional Contact’s dialog

GoldMine Technical Support’s official perspective:There is no way to achieve this within GoldMine and a related Feature Request to extend/adjust the columns in the
Additional Contact's tab will not be within GoldMine for the next 12-18 months.
The following information is not officially supported by GoldMine Technical Support and GoldMine Technical Support will not assist in
    - planning
    - implementing
    - maintaining and
    - troubleshooting
and is therefor only provided as-is without any warranty of any kind.

Although we cannot support and assist in any setup from the Microsoft SQL Server back end one could think about 2 alternatives
which might be discussed with the local IT department and / or the SQL database administrator. A. SQL Login with DENY settings on CONTSUPP
    - create / adjust a SQL Server login with access to the GoldMine database like a usual user
but explicitly DENY any INSERT, UPDATES and DELETE actions on the CONTSUPP table
(the Edit Tab Folders security setting primarily addresses data of the CONTSUPP table)
+ activate Edit Tab Folders for user via
Tools >> User Settings >> on a certain User >> Properties >> Access tab >> Contact Record area
+ activate a SQL Logon name and SQL Password for the user via
Tools >> User Settings >> on a certain User >> Properties >> Access tab >> General Access area
    B. SQL Login with only Datareader rights but additional necessary rights on certain GoldMine tables
    - create / adjust a SQL Server login with completely restricted INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE rights on all tables of GoldMine
(e.g. predefined role as db_datareader) – please keep in mind that this MUST NOT apply to all tables
as although GoldMine Technical Support does not have a list of necessary rights available from testing the user needs
UPDATE, INSERT and DELETE rights on the following tables
CAL, Environment, HISTORY, HISTORY_ITEM, USERLOG and USERS.
+ activate Edit Tab Folders for user via
Tools >> User Settings >> on a certain User >> Properties >> Access tab >> Contact Record area
+ activate a SQL Logon name and SQL Password for the user via
Tools >> User Settings >> on a certain User >> Properties >> Access tab >> General Access area

Please keep in mind that these are results of quick and dirty testing as GoldMine Technical Support always recommends to provide
INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE AND SELECT rights on all GoldMine database tables!  >> With both alternatives A and B the user might become a real read only user from a Microsoft SQL Server perspective but may see
and even try to change contact data on the GoldMine surface, but as soon as the user tries to update / change any data in the
restricted areas e.g. Additional contact records there will appear Database operation errors with the specific error message
about missing rights on the back end object.
    C. programming of a GM+View for the desired data

    - a completely different approach and where GoldMine Technical Support also cannot assist in any way as it requires web programming
skills would be to create a GM+View for the desired information which can then be by default restricted to only SELECT statements.
