GoldMine installer hangs while scanning the "Mailbox\Attach\" directory on installations that have a large mailbox attachment folder and file structure.
The issue is the result of the GoldMine installer scanning the "Mailbox\Attach\" directory along with the subfolders of the GoldMine application directory during the upgrade process.

1) On the Server or the undocked workstation, locate the GoldMine email attachments folder.
Normally this folder will be located in C:\ProgramData\GoldMine or on older 32bit operating system C:\Program Files\GoldMine.
2) Rename or move the folder "Mailbox\Attach\" to another drive or another location outside of the GoldMine application folder.
3) Upgrade GoldMine.
4) Rename back or move the "Mailbox\Attach\" directory back to its original location.
A long Term Solution for resolving this issue is to move the mailbox\attach folder to a location outside of the GoldMine application folder, for example, C:\Goldmine\mailbox\attach\ using the GoldMine Document Mover Tool.
