Version 1

    Details

Restore GoldMine database from system backup when no SQL backup exists

    [SCENARIO]
    - Lost disk drive on SQL server
    - When server is back up, MSSQL Server re-installed
    - No SQL backup of GoldMine database was ever done
    - Entire server was backed up regularly via a system backup

For purposes of this article, the name of the database needing to be restored is GoldMine

    Resolution

    [INFORMATION]
GoldMine Technical Support cannot assist in this case and it must be kept in mind that this is neither the usual way to restore a database and may lead to corrupted data when the file backup was taken while transactions were performed. This workaround should be used only under the above described exceptional circumstances

If GoldMine and SQL servers were on the same machine:
    1.  Install GoldMine on the server with the following options:
        - Install to a new database
        - De-select option to install Demo Data
        - In the MS SQL Administrator Login, name the database GoldMine
    2.  After GoldMine is installed on the server, start SQL Management Studio
    3.  On the top left, highlight the top line, which contains the server name
    4.  Right-click, and select Stop
    5.  Click Yes on the confirmation
        - If SQL Server Agent was running too, click Yes on that confirmation as well
    6.  From the lastest system backup, restore:
        C:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\GoldMine.mdf
                                         and
        C:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\GoldMine_log.ldf
        - These are the default paths to the database files
        - The second folder (MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER) could have different digits depending of what version of SQL is installed
    7.  On the top left of SQL Management Studio, highlight the top line, which contains the server name
    8.  Right-click, and select Start, and click Yes on the confirmation
    9.  Do the same with SQL Server Agent if you want that to run as well
    10.  Start GoldMine and login
    11.  You'll likely get the following message:

    12.  If you do, click OK on the message to close GoldMine
    13.  In SQL Management Studio, click New Query
    14.  Cut and paste the following into the New Query window:

    USE [master]
    GO
    ALTER DATABASE [GoldMine] SET NEW_BROKER
    GO

    15.  Click Execute
    16.  You should get the following message:

    17.  Start GoldMine and login

If GoldMine and SQL servers were on separate machines
    1.  On the SQL server, start SQL Server Management Studio
    2.  Right-click Databases, and select New Database
    3.  In Database name:, enter Goldmine, and click OK
    4.  On the top left, highlight the top line, which contains the server name
    5.  Right-click, and select Stop
    6.  Click Yes on the confirmation
        - If SQL Server Agent was running too, click Yes on that confirmation as well
    7.  From the lastest system backup, restore:
        C:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\GoldMine.mdf
                                         and
        C:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\GoldMine_log.ldf
        - These are the default paths to the database files
        - The second folder (MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER) could have different digits depending of what version of SQL is installed
    8.  On the top left of SQL Management Studio, highlight the top line, which contains the server name
    9.  Right-click, and select Start, and click Yes on the confirmation
    10.  Do the same with SQL Server Agent if you want that to run as well
    11.  Start GoldMine and login
    12.  You'll likely get the following message:

    13.  If you do, click OK on the message to close GoldMine
    14.  In SQL Management Studio, click New Query
    15.  Cut and paste the following into the New Query window:

    USE [master]
    GO
    ALTER DATABASE [GoldMine] SET NEW_BROKER
    GO

    16.  Click Execute
    17.  You should get the following message:

    18.  Start GoldMine and login
