    How to force the iGoldMine server to automatically upgrade the iGoldMine Client?


    Resolution

     

    To enable Automatic client updates

     

    On the Client Machine

     

    1. Install the iGoldMine Client on the client computers using the iGM-client.windows.exe setup program.   (NOTE: The Automatic client update feature is only available for Windows computers.)
    2. Make sure that the 'iGoldMine Client Update' service is started on the client machine.   (This should install by default when you install the iGM-client.windows.exe setup program)

     

     

     

    To check the service is installed and running

     

    1. Right-click My Computer.
    2. Click Manage.
    3. Click Computer Management | Services and Applications | Services.
    4. Select iGoldMine Update Client.
    5. Click Properties.
    6. Under Start-up type, select Automatic.
    7. Click Start (if the service is not running).
    8. Click OK.

     

                 

     

    On the Host Machine

     

    1. Install the corresponding iGoldMine Client.
    2. Copy the files from C:\Program Files\FrontRange\iGoldMine\Client to C:\Program Files\FrontRange\iGoldMine\Updates\Windows
    3. From the Cluster Manager, click Tools | Host Options.
    4. Click the Client Access tab.
    5. Enable ‘Automatically update clients’.
    6. Click OK.

     

             

     

    When ‘Automatically update clients’ is selected in the Cluster Manager and a user signs in to the host from a Windows computer, iGoldMine compares the version of the iGoldMine Client installed on the client computer to the version in the Updates directory on the Host. If the files in

    the Updates directory are newer, iGoldMine copies the newer files to a temporary directory on the client computer.  Then, when the iGoldMine Client closes, the iGoldMine Update Client service installs the new files so they can be used in subsequent iGoldMine sessions.

    (NOTE: You must be connected to the host log enough for the files to copy otherwise the update will no occur.)

    In summary, a new iGoldMine Client will be installed when the following conditions are met:

    • Automatically update clients      is enabled in the Cluster Manager.
    • The iGoldMine Update Client      service is installed and enabled on the client computer.
    • A newer version of the client      is available in the Updates directory on the host.
    • All of the files in the new      version have been downloaded to the client computer.
    • The iGoldMine Client is not      running.

    Users are not required to perform any upgrade tasks.  They can, however, prevent updates from being installed by disabling the iGoldMine Update Client service on the client computer.

     

    To disable the iGoldMine Update Client service

     

    1. Right-click My Computer.
    2. Click Manage.
    3. Click Computer Management | Services and Applications | Services.
    4. Select iGoldMine Update Client.
    5. Click Properties.
    6. Under Start-up type, select Disabled.
    7. Click Stop.
    8. Click OK.
