LANDesk Patch News Bulletin: Modified LANDesk Update Content LD-Spyware-20722_V2 is Available 09-FEB-2009

    · (February 9, 2009) LANDesk has updated LANDesk Update content for LD-Spyware-20722-882. The new vulnerability definition is, LD-Spyware-20722-882_v2 and will support installation on LDSS 8.8 SP1 and SP2.

    Some customers have experienced Vulscan / Softmon crashes after applying this patch.

    The most common issue was due to a mismatch of files on the Core Server and the client machines. DO NOT apply this patch to the core and not the client machines! This will cause Vulscan and Ceapi.dll to get updated when vulscan runs on the client machine and will cause crash issues. Applying the patch to client machines first should be OK.

    How to resolve the Vulscan / Softmon C++ crashing issues

    Issue 1 - Downloading incremental update definition files before the 20722 patch has been applied can cause problems.
        Resolution - Delete all spyware definition files from the core and redownload the definitions after the 20722 patch has been installed.

    Issue 2 - There are softmon and vulscan file mismatches between the Core Server and client machines.
        Resolution - Verify that the core and client are updated, sometimes requires a manual update

    Issue 3 - Compatibility issues with vulscan, softmon, and Symantec Endpoint Protection. If real-time scanning is enabled softmon will generate the error without initiating a spyware scan. Vulscan will throw an exception during a spyware scan.
    Resolution -
    Apply  Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 Maintenance Release 3 (MR3) and later.
