    Details

    What is the purpose of the DBALIAS.INI file and what is the content of the file?

    Resolution

    The DBALIAS.INI contains the alias(es) for the databases GoldMine. An alias is required to connect your database to the application. It  tells GoldMine where to find the database, collecting information from  which to build the ADO connection string. Within GoldMine the Alias Manager via Tools >> Databases >> Alias Manager let GoldMine administrators establish an alias for each database used with GoldMine.

    The setup of an alias via the Alias Manager within GoldMine is stored in the DBALIAS.INI file.

    [Alias1]  // Section header of first alias, number indicates the order of the alias in the Alias Manager's list
    Name=Archive // Alias name, used in GM.INI for GOLDDIR or COMMONDIR and in Open Databases for Contact Sets
    ServerType=MSSQL // Firebird or MSSQL, since GMPE 9.x only MSSQL (Firebird only be used for upgrading)
    HOST=w12r2 // MS SQL host (w12r2) or instance (win7box\SQLEXPRESS) or IP-Address (10.0.0.195) of MS SQL Server
    DATABASE=GoldMine201410440USDemo // Database name on the back end
    OWNER=dbo // This defaults to dbo and should not be changed
    LOGIN= // SQL user name For Example sa, blank when Windows Authentication (SSPI) is used
    PASSWORD= // SQL user password encrypted, blank when Windows Authentication (SSPI) is used
    USE_SSPI=1 // Windows Authentication active to authenticate to the database server, is blank when SQL login is used
    DBTYPE=0 // Specifies the database type MS SQL, only used when Windows Authentication is activated

    [Alias2] // Section header of second alias
    Name=Customers
    ServerType=MSSQL
    HOST=W12R2
    DATABASE=GMPE201410412LargeUSDemo
    OWNER=dbo
    LOGIN=sa // SQL user name
    PASSWORD="X&$3Q{=+#@63]E RR;_8 K#2QI$;<{(W `R\1, RJ0 )#6H{JQ${;I1Z " // SQL user password encrypted
    USE_SSPI= // Windows Authentication not activated

    [General] // Additional header which must not be changed
    BDEMigrated=1 // Additional setting which must not be changed
