Cannot find section in alias file for xyz (GoldMine alias name) when signing into GoldMine Mobile

Version 1

    Details

Cannot find section in alias file for xyz (GoldMine alias name) when signing into GoldMine Mobile

    [PRE-REQUISITES]
    - installed and configured GoldMine Connect / GoldMine Mobile

    [STEPS TO REPRODUCE]
    1. Start GoldMine Mobile in a support browser or on a device
    2. Log in with valid user credentials

    [RESULT]
the user is getting an error message - Cannot find section in alias file for xyz (GoldMine alias name) when signing into GoldMine Mobile

    Resolution

    [CAUSE]
    - The set database alias does not point to a valid GoldMine database (alias)
    - This error may occur for all users or only for certain users when an invalid COMMONDIR  entry exists in the USERNAME.INI (e.g. also on migrated systems and / or  test environments). Although not usual, it also might be the case that the GM.INI  entries for COMMONDIR and maybe also GOLDDIR (e.g. migrated systems  where the GM.INI was not yet adjusted or also test environments) point  to invalid alias(es)

    [RESOLUTION]

    A. Verify the COMMONDIR entry in the user's USERNAME.INI

    1. Browse to the USER.INI (GoldMine folder on application server or if undocked user you’ll find that locally) 2. Make sure to create a backup of the file  3. Open the USER.INI (for example MASTER.ini) via Notepad 4. Locate or Add the section [GOLDMINE] 5. Verify and if applicable adjust the COMMONDIR entry with a valid GoldMine Contact set database alias
The entry may then look like  COMMONDIR=Customers:
Alternatively the line can also be deleted as the GM.INI's COMMONDIR entry will be taken on the next log in of this user.
      6. Save the User.INI file
    7. The testing User should log into GoldMine Mobile again and verify that the log in works without the same message

NB: This needs to be verified for every affected USER separately

    B. if the error appears for all users although the USERNAME.INI was already verified

The  GoldMine administrator should verify first the GM.INI COMMONDIR and  GOLDDIR entries, that the aliases are correct and point to correct  GoldMine database(s).

    1. Browse to the GM.INI (GoldMine folder on application server or if undocked user you’ll find that locally) 2. Make sure to create a backup of the file  3. Open the GM.INI via Notepad 4. Locate the [GOLDMINE] section
    5. Verify and if applicable adjust the GOLDDIR and COMMONDIR entries with valid GoldMine database alias(es)   6. If applicable save the GM.INI file  7. The testing User should log into GoldMine Mobile again and verify that the log in works now without the same message

    NB:
    - Any changes in the GOLDDIR entry will result in opening GoldMine with different GoldMine base tables (like MAILBOX, FILTERS, OPMGR etc.)
    - Any changes should be performed only by the dedicated GoldMine Administrator
