Version 1

    Details

Merging tagged records, when you tag the records in 2 two separate searches in the Contact Search Center, opposite to the on screen information the 2nd tagged record takes precedence

    [STEPS TO REPRODUCE]
    in the Demo database
    1. Go To >> Search >> Contact Search Center (alternatively Search Button or Double click on the field label Contact)
    2. if applicable set the Search by to Contact (primary) and criteria to Begins with
    3. search for Art Bardtoll
    4. tag Art Bardtoll  >> you can check the contact record and it shows as (1 tagged records)

    5. now search for Donald Dunst
    6. tag also Donald Dunst >> you can check the contact record and it shows as 2 tagged records)

    7. Tools >> Data Management >> Merge/Purge Records >> Merge Tagged Records
    8. Review the upcoming message it states that '...of all tagged contact records with the contact record which was tagged first. ... All tagged contact records will be deleted once their data is synchronized with the surviving contact record, the contact which you tagged first.....'

    9. Yes
    10. Verify which contact record was merged into which contact record, means verify which one is the surviving contact record and which one is now the merged additional contact record marked as a duplicate

    [EXPECTED RESULT]
Art Bardtoll as the surviving primary contact record
Donald Dunst as the additional contact of Art Bardtoll marked with a Reference as Duplicate record

    [ACTUAL RESULT]
Donald Dunst as the surviving primary contact record
Art Bardtoll as the additional contact of Donald Dunst marked with a Reference as Duplicate record

    Resolution

    [CAUS E]
    - this is RM # 149388
    - this stems from older GoldMine Corporate versions where it was necessary to keep the CTRL key pressed while tagging records from the Contact Search Center as it did not have check boxes to tag records and GoldMine Premium Edition still expects that the CTRL key is pressed, although it does now have check boxes for tagging records easily

    [WORKAROUND]

    - Please keep in mind that neither of the below actions can be undone and will also work when several contact records are tagged / opened. If you are not used to use the merge/purge feature on a regular basis it is highly recommended to make sure to have a full running backup available prior merging contact records
    - it is recommended to perform any merge/purge actions as a user with master rights

    A.
While knowing the behavior ignore the message about the first tagged records and tag the desired surviving consciously as last record as this will result in the correct merger of the records

    B. or make sure to have both desired contact records on the initial search result e.g. Contact (primary) begins with %

    1. Go To >> Search >> Contact Search Center (alternatively Search Button or Double click on the field label Contact)
    2. if applicable set the Search by to Contact (primary) and criteria to Begins with
    3. enter % which will display all available contact records
    4. tag Art Bardtoll  first >> you can check the contact record and it shows as (1 tagged records)
    5. now tag Donald Dunst >> you can check the contact record and it shows as (2 tagged records)

    6. Tools >> Data Management >> Merge/Purge Records >> Merge Tagged Records
    7. Yes on the upcoming window which contains the same information about the first tagged record remaining as surviving record
    8.  Verify which contact record was merged into which contact record, means  verify which one is the surviving contact record and which one is now  the merged additional contact record marked as a duplicate

    C. or use instead Merge Opened Records  (this is usually the better workaround as workaround B. as it is occasionally not possible to have both records in the same search result)

    1. Go To >> Search >> Contact Search Center (alternatively Search Button or Double click on the field label Contact)
    2. if applicable set the Search by to Contact (primary) and criteria to Begins with
    3. search for Art Bardtoll
    4. Double click on the record so that the Contact tab will show Art Bardtoll as the current active record
    5. Window >> New Contact Window (this opens a second instance of a Contact Tab and should display the Contact List)
    6. now switch back to the Contact Search Center tab
    7. search for Donald Dunst
    8. double click on the record so that the 2nd Contact tab will now show Donald Dunst as the current active record
    9. Activate the tab for Art Bardtoll

    10. Tools >> Data Management >> Merge/Purge Records >> Merge Opened Records
    11. Review the upcoming message it states that '...allows you to merge 2 Contact Records currently opened ... into the foreground record ... '  >> press Yes to confirm that the foreground (current active) contact window will remain as the remaining surviving record, while the background contact tab record will be merged into the surviving contact record

    12.  Verify which contact record was merged into which contact record, means  verify which one is the surviving contact record and which one is now  the merged additional contact record marked as a duplicate

    [RESULT]
The first tagged record (here Art Bardtoll) will be now the surviving record
The second tagged record (here Donald Dunst) is now the additional contact of the first tagged record marked with a Reference as Duplicate record
