Version 1

    Details

When trying to upgrade HEAT Service Management, you receive an error in the Configuration Database Upgrade System step after entering the Admin role credentials.

    Error text in full is:
Executing loginTest ...Failed to execute loginTestUnable to authenticate user admin with the tenant ConfigDB: The requested service, 'http://{tenantURL}/HEAT/ServiceAPI/SessionManagement.svc/Login' could not be activated. See the server's diagnostic trace logs for more information.

This error is indicative of an issue with the SessionManagement service. This article details one possible way to discover the root cause, which may be solved by a separate KB article.

    Resolution

To find the root cause of the error from the System Configuration Wizard:

    - Open a browser window
    - Navigate to the URL from the error message, minus the login page:
    http://{tenantURL}/HEAT/ServiceAPI/SessionManagement.svc/Login
    - You will receive a prompt to Open or Save a JSON file
    - Open the JSON file in Notepad
    - The error present in the JSON file text will be actual root cause of the error presented in the System Configuration Wizard.

One common error witnessed is "The element <security> may only appear once in this section." which is resolved by following KB 18403.
