How does GoldMine recognize an email as a Web Import email? How are contacts created automatically upon Web Import emails?

    Resolution

GoldMine reads the header information of an email to determine if it is a Web Import email.  Either of two triggers will let GoldMine to recognize an email as an web import email and therefore - depending on the Web-Import options - initiate the Web Import function.

    The currently recommended trigger is

    1. The Content-Type to be Content-Type: text/x-gm-impdata. This can be used for either  INI or XML scripts

This trigger is recommended because Mailserver usually do not change the content-type tag and values in an email when it is received/delievered.
    Alternatively:
    2. The To: line has {$GM-WEBIMPORT$} set as the display name of the retrieving email account. This is sometimes used for INI scripts
    Example:

    To: {$GM-WEBIMPORT$}[email protected]

Note: It is possible for the display name to be changed on the email servers email account to force the display name to {$GM-WEBIMPORT$}.

When an email is recognized as a Web-Import Email, the Email has an additional WebIimport button in the Email Toolbar?

In order to get contacts created automatically upon Web-import emails is a user preference. The following setting(s) can be set as the user who is retrieiving the Web Import emails

    1. Tools >> Options

    2. Tab E-mail

    3. Button More Options

    4. Tab Advanced

    5. Section Right Bottom >> Web-Import

    - Depending if the user is set to background retrieval every x minutes and auto-retrieve on the email account or not (means manual retrieval into the Email center e.g. via right click >> Get - single, selected or all - items on the Online mailbox)  the user can set the second (background retrieval) and/or the first option (manual retrieval of emails).

    - The last option is then to  keep the original email as an email or to discard (delete the real email)

    6. OK >> OK

Please keep in mind that changes on the settings do not work on web-import emails which are already in the Inbox, but instead apply only to web-import emails which were not yet retireved from the Online folder

    [ADDITIONAL NOTES]

    - It is possible for some types of email servers to force a change to MIME Types.
    -  Please refer to Web import not working when webimport data is received in an email attachment and not the Email body for some options with Exchange servers.
