IPCM Disaster Recovery Preporation

Version 1

Backing up Key components of your IPCM sever in the case of Disaster.
To quickly bring your IPCM system back online

Creating a backup/DR server for IPCM

    1. Install      the IPCM software onto a secondary server – if testing for upgrade      purposes, install the current Production version of the software onto the      secondary server, and follow upgrade path as outlined in IPCM Readme for      the upgraded version (see notes at the bottom of this document)
    1. From      the Production server, copy the      following files:
      1. %IPCMROOT%\Data\HostConfiguration.XML
      2. %IPCMROOT%\Data\SIPServerConfiguration.XML
      3. %IPCMROOT%\Data\AppSelector.XML
      4. %IPCMROOT%\Applications       (Entire directory)
    1. On the      backup/DR server, stop all IPCM servers (from services.msc – all services      will have an IPCM * designation)
    1. On the      backup/DR server, navigate to %IPCMROOT%\Data
    1. On the      backup/DR server, Rename the HostConfiguration.XML, SIPServerConfiguration.XML      and AppSelector.XML files. Optionally, you may move these files into a      backup folder (recommend naming the folder in a naming convention that      identifies these are the initial install files, for example,      “original_install_config_files”)
    1. On the      backup/DR server, in %IPCMROOT%\Data insert the HostConfiguration.XML,      SIPServerConfiguration.XML and AppSelector.XML files copied from      production
    1. On the      backup/DR server, Open the HostConfiguration.XML file in notepad
    1. Do a      Find/Replace for the Production Server name with backup server name
    1. Save      the file
    1. Repeat      for SIPServerConfiguration.XML (**Note – typically, the Voice Server trunk      is defined as, and should not require any modification)
    1. Save      the file
    1. On the      backup/DR server, start only the IPCM Web Portal Service
    1. Once      the Web Portal service has been started, open the Management Portal and      navigate to System Configuration>>Host>>Database
    1. Update      the connection string to a separate SQL database (it will show as the      production database) **Note – for testing/development purposes, if you      have installed MSDE as part of your IPCM install, you may point to this      local version of the database
    1. Update/Commit      changes
    1. Start      IPCM * services
