    Unable to open attachment .pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.


     


    Resolution

    The PDF reader could open the original file normally but once it was attached to the incident, the error " either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged" would occur.   If you save the attached .pdf  to the desktop and look at the properties, you see that the size is 0.   


    This occurs because there is no free space on the C: drive   (or the drive where the temp directory is configured in the System Configuration Wizard).   Once space is freed up on the drive, the attachments are copied correctly to the attachments store and will open correctly)   The damaged attachments do not automatically fix themselves once space is made available.
