Upgrading to Absolute Service 8.0 - Additional steps for IIS/Tomcat manual war file based installation.

Version 1

    Details

When upgrading a manual war file based Absolute Service installation to version 8 for the first time, where IIS with Tomcat is used extra steps are required to update the references from LiveTime to Service, in addition to those in the upgrade guide. This documents these steps should this installation method wish to still be used.

    Resolution

When upgrading a manual war file based Absolute Service installation to version 8 for the first time, where IIS with Tomcat are hosting it, the following needs to be done if wishing to continue using this installation method. This is in addition to the steps in the upgrade guide:

Under Administrative Tools, open up IIS Manager.
Expand the tree structure to find Sites > default > WebObjects > LiveTime.woa

This needs to be changed to Service.woa. This is done by removing and recreating this. Although the removal may be optional at this stage if a rollback should be needed to save this having to be done over.

Right click on the WebObjects folder and 'New -> Virtual Directory' (IIS 6) or ‘Add Virtual Directory’ (IIS 7) enter the directory name as Service.woa with the path 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot'.

If prompted to give it permissions, only give it Read permissions. All these folders just need read permissions.

Repeat this for a virtual folder called Contents underneath the Service.woa folder with the same path.

Create another virtual folder called, 'WebServerResources' underneath the Contents one with the path as follows where [Tomcat] is replaced with the installation location of Tomcat: C:\[Tomcat]\webapps\Service\WEB-INF\Service.woa\Contents\WebServerResources

Next, open up the following file in a plain text editor, eg Notepad:

    C:\Inetpub\uriworkermap.properties

    This should read:

    /LiveTime/*=ajp13

    Change this to:

    /Service/*=ajp13

This should be all the work required in addition to the steps in upgrade guide for such an install. However, if there is an automatic redirect in place too, this would need updating from /LiveTime/WebObjects/LiveTime.woa to /Service/WebObjects/Service.woa/

Note that if there are issues, please double check the case of everything above as it all case sensitive. Failing that an incident can be raised with us to investigate.

Finally, if we are sure we don't need to roll back we can remove the other virtual folder structure. To do this in IIS Manager, right click the LiveTime.woa part of the path in question and select remove.
