The Quick Print option in the context menu causes the Ivanti Workspace Control user session to stop responding

    Problem

    Consider the following scenario:

     

    • The Microsoft option Quick Print is used to print documents directly from Windows Explorer or from Microsoft Outlook.
    • Process Interception is enabled on global level or on a Workspace Container.
    • Process Interception is enabled for the associated application which is used to open the document.
    • File Type Associations are configured for the corresponding file in a managed application.

     

    In this scenario, the user session will stop responding. No document is being sent to the printer.

     

     

    Cause

    File Type Associations are configured on the managed application and will open the associated application.

    Deadlocks appear due to they way Process Interception works when an application launches through svchost.exe, which in turns launches another application.

    The composer (pfwsmgr.exe) waits indefinitely for svchost.exe to complete.

     

     

    Solution

    This issue is resolved in Ivanti Workspace Control 10.2.900.0.

     


    Workaround

    Only configure either of the two options. Either configure Process Interception or configure File Types Associations.
    Preferably configure Process Interception only and remove the File Types, associated on the Managed Application in the Ivanti Workspace Control Console.
