Error "Unable to build the core server activation file" when attempting to activate the LDMS Core Server

    Description

    The message "Unable to build the core server activation file" is displayed when attempting to activate the LANDesk Management Suite Core Server.

    Cause

    The group policy "System Cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing" has been Enabled. The default setting is Disabled.

     

    Resolution

     

    Option 1

    Disable the group policy in the group policy editor either on the domain controller or on the local client

     

    1. On the local client go to Start | Run: gpedit.msc
    2. Open the navigation tree to Local Computer Policy | Windows Settings | Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options
    3. Right click on "System Cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing" and click Properties

    4. Change the option from Enabled to Disabled
    5. Click OK

    6. Run activation now with FIPS security disabled


    Option 2

    Disable FIPS through a registry key change

     

    1. Go to Start and run "Regedit"
    2. Navigate to the registry key

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

    3. Change the value for fipsalgorithpolicy to 0

    4. Close and re-open the activation window then activate the core server
