Citrix Provisioned Server image is not starting after installing RES ONE Workspace on Microsoft Hyper-V Server

Version 1

    Problem

After installing RES ONE Workspace on a Microsoft OS with Citrix Provisioning Server the Citrix Provisioned image will not completely startup anymore. It will stop responding before the Ctrl+Alt+Delete screen should be displayed in the console of the Microsoft Hyper-V Server.

The Microsoft Hyper-V based guest has two network cards configured (One Microsoft Legacy network adapter (legacy Hyper-V NIC) and one normal Network Microsoft Hyper-V Network adapter (synthetic NIC).

    Cause

During the boot process of the Machine, the default network adapter is changed.

Originally, the default network adapter is the Microsoft Legacy Network adapter (Legacy Hyper-V NIC).

This will be changed to the Microsoft Network Hyper-V adapter (Synthetic NIC), during the boot process. This is described in the following Citrix Doc article.

    Solution

This issue will be resolved in a future version of RES ONE Workspace.

    Workaround:

Choose one of the following workaround to solve this issue:

    Workaround 1:
Replace the TDI based RES ONE Netguard driver with the WFP based RES ONE Workspace Netguard driver

    - First extract the driver from the MSI package of RES-ONE-Workspace-2016-SR1.msi (use 7zip or peazip to extract the MSI and afterwards the disk1.cab and copy the file netguard_amd64.sys (64-Bit Version), netguard.sys (32-Bit Version) or the RES Support engineer will provide you with a suitable version of the file.
    - Replace the file on the designated system in folder C:\windows\System32\Drivers  (32-bit system) and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers (64-bit system)
    - Reboot the system

    Workaround 2:
Disable the RES Netguard driver in the registry via the following setting and restart he machine:

    Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RES NetGuard
    Value:   START
    Type:    REG_DWORD
    Data:    3

    NOTE:

This only applies to environments where the RES ONE Workspace Network security is NOT in use.
