Signature is not displayed in Microsoft Outlook

Version 1

    Problem

    Consider the following scenario:
    • A different language version of Microsoft Outlook is installed (e.g. Dutch Microsoft Office on a native English operating system).
    • E-mail Settings are configured with the Run Once option to configure signatures.
    • Local profiles that are deleted or mandatory profiles are used.
In this scenario the configured outlook signature that is configured through Email Settings is not displayed in Outlook.

    Cause

Microsoft Outlook checks a different signatures folder due to language differences.

The Email Settings feature by default writes the configured signature in %AppData%\MicroSoft\Signatures.
When Microsoft Outlook is started it will check the configured signatures folder in the registry.
An example for a Dutch version of Microsoft Outlook: %AppData%\Microsoft\Handtekeningen. Obviously no signatures are present in this location.

When you change the name of the signatures folder in the registry (in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\[Version nr]\Common\General\Signatures) to 'Signatures' by using a User Registry action it is reverted back to 'Handtekeningen' again.

    Solution

Change the name of the signatures folder in the registry on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE level.

    32-bit:

    KEY: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\User Settings\Mso_CoreReg\Create\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\General
    VALUE: Signatures
    TYPE: REG_SZ
    DATA: Signatures

    64-bit:

    KEY: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\14.0\User Settings\Mso_CoreReg\Create\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\General
    VALUE: Signatures
    TYPE: REG_SZ
    DATA: Signatures
