Unable to connect the RES ONE Workspace Agent for Linux after changing the /etc/res/reswmad.conf file on Microsoft Windows

Version 1

    Problem

    One of the following errors might be reported in the reswmad.log:
    • The environment specified is not hosted by this Relay Server.
    • The password is incorrect.

    Cause

    After editing the file on Microsoft Windows the DOS/MAC file format is used on /etc/res/reswmad.conf file.
    As a result the RES ONE Workspace Agent for Linux cannot read the file.

    Solution

    Convert the /etc/res/reswmad.conf file to the UNIX text file format.
    This can be achieved by using a tool like dos2unix.

    dos2unix /etc/res/reswmad.conf

    Notes
    In general, you should refrain from editing Linux configuration files on a Windows machine.

    The type of the file can be verified by using the following command.

    file /etc/res/reswmad.conf

    The output for a file with only LF (Linux) newlines will be: ASCII text
    The output for a file with CRLF (Windows) newlines will be: ASCII text, with CRLF line terminators

    Alternatively the line ends of a file can be verified with vi (visual editor) by using the -b parameter. This will show ^M as line end for the DOS/MAC file format.

    vi -b /etc/res/reswmad.conf

    DOS/MAC file format:
    RSENVGUID={9F8F38DE-7658-401A-98E8-EC9254FB9B4B}^M

    UNIX text file format:
    RSENVGUID={9F8F38DE-7658-401A-98E8-EC9254FB9B4B}
