Unable to pin certain application shortcuts to the Taskbar or Recent/Frequent Lists

Version 1

    Problem

Unable to pin certain application shortcuts to the Taskbar or Recent/Frequent Lists.

    Cause

    Default Microsoft Windows behavior.

    Solution

Certain executable files, as well as shortcuts that contain certain strings in their names, are automatically excluded from pinning and inclusion in the MFU list.

If any of the following strings, regardless of case, are included in the shortcut name, the program is not pinable and is not displayed in the most frequently used list:

    - Documentation

    - Install
    - More Info
    - Read me
    - Read First

This list can be edited in the following registry location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileAssociation
