Jump lists for recently opened documents are not available at the next logon

Version 1

    Problem

    Consider the following scenario:

In the RES ONE Workspace Console:
    • At Composition > User Settings a user setting is configured to capture the recent opened files at session end.
    • Folder tree: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent
    • Registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RecentDocs
    In Microsoft Windows:
    • Mandatory user profiles, or local user profiles which are removed at logoff, are being used.
When logging on the next time, the recent items will not be available on the corresponding Jumplist, however they have been created in the previous session.

Checking RES ONE Workspace Upf file for the AutomaticDestinations files, which hold the recently opened files info, reveals that they are not being captured with the configured RES ONE Workspace User setting.

    Cause

The "Clear history of recently opened documents on exit" policy has been set which causes Microsoft Windows to cleanup all recent documents information at session logoff.

    Solution

Change the configuration of the "Clear history of recently opened documents on exit" policy.

This policy setting is part of the StartMenu.admx and for the recent information to be stored it must be configured to:

    "Not configured" or "Off"

To do this browse in the policy to StartMenu > Clear history of recently opened documents on exit, right click on it and select the: Not configured" or "Off" from the context menu.
It is also possible to change the value of the registry key for this policy:

    Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
    Value: ClearRecentDocsOnExit
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Data: 0 {Keep recent docs}  1 {Clear recent docs}
