Microsoft App-V 5 Error: The application failed to launch. Error code: 0x0FD01F25-00000002

Version 1

    Problem

When starting a Microsoft App-V 5 application the error: The application failed to launch. Error code: 0x0FD01F25-00000002 might appear.

    Consider the following scenario:

    - Composition > Actions by type > Lockdown and behavior > Automatically Place Applications in Programs Menu is disabled.
    - Composition > Applications > Settings > Remove all empty menus is enabled.
    - The session is refreshed.

    Cause

When no %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder exists the Microsoft App-V 5 application might fail and generate the error.

    Solution

Consider enabling the option Composition > Desktop > Lockdown and behavior > Automatically Place Applications in Programs Menu and/or Consider disabling the option Composition > Applications > Settings > Remove empty menus

As of RES Workspace Manager 2014 Service Release 2 a new option is available at Composition > Applications > Settings > Remove empty managed menus only

Enabling this new option Remove empty managed menus only and disabling the Remove all empty menus option will allow you to disable the Automatically Place Applications in Programs Menu option.

This way the Programs folder is not removed and the error will not occur.

The dependency of the Microsoft App-V 5 application on the Microsoft Start Menu Programs folder is not related to RES Workspace Manager.

An administrator can choose to configure RES Workspace Manager to remove this Programs folder which will reveal the dependency and lead to the Microsoft App-V 5 error.
