Importing a Microsoft App-V OSD file results in an error message: RES Workspace Manager was unable to check and patch the OSD file

Version 1

    Problem

When importing a Microsoft App-V OSD file into the RES Workspace Manager, an error message will be displayed:

RES Workspace Manager was unable to check and patch the OSD file. Please make sure the OSD file can be read and may be changed.

    Cause

If a Microsoft App-V OSD file is edited manually, invalid characters can be inserted into the file. If this occurs, the file will not be 100% compatible with XML standards and therefore cannot be patched by the RES Workspace Manager.

To check this, change the OSD file format to .XML and open it with e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer. If the file contains invalid characters, the file will not be displayed or an error message will be displayed:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

    Solution

Remove the invalid characters from the Microsoft App-V OSD file to make sure it is fully compatible with XML standards.
