ILO: Software Teaching

Version 1

    Software Teaching

When a software data record cannot be matched to the Software Library, it will appear in the Software Teaching page. The Software Teaching page may be accessed by navigating to the Software Teaching Status page and selecting the data source tile against which the user wishes to perform software teaching. Clicking a data source tile will display the Software Teaching page populated with the unrecognised phrases from that data source:

    Software Teaching page

From this page, the user may select unrecognised phrases and match them to a product in the Software Library; this is called teaching. Any teaching that is done never has to be repeated as long as the program name is consistent.

To teach a phrase, the user should select the phrase to be taught from the Unrecognised Phrases pane on the left of the page; the selected phrase will then be shown in the Selected Phrases pane (the dark blue pane in the centre of the page):

    The user may:

    • Add more phrases to the pane (when matching different phrases to the same product)
This is done by selecting additional phrases from the Unrecognised Phrases pane. To select multiple unrecognized phrases at one time, select the first phrase, then while pressing the Shift key, scroll down the list and select the last phrase to be included.
    • Show additional detail relating to the phrase
The data import may have provided additional information alongside the phrase; this data may be displayed by clicking the eye icon shown at the top left of the Phrase entry.
    • Remove a phrase from the Selected Phrases pane
This is done by hovering over the phrase that the user wishes to remove and clicking the Delete (X) icon that is shown in the top right of the Phrase entry.
    • Clear the Selected Phrases pane
To remove all Phrase entries from the Selected Phrases pane, the user should click the Clear List icon shown at the top right of the Selected Phrases pane.

After the user has selected the phrase(s) that they wish to teach, the user should click the Lookup matches button; upon clicking this button, License Optimizer will search the Software Library for possible matches against the selected phrase(s) in the Selected Phrases pane. Any possible matches will be displayed in the Possible Matched Items pane, which will be displayed on the right side of the page:Software Teaching page: Possible Matched Items paneIn this pane, License Optimizer provides information against Software Library entries that may match the phrase(s) selected by the user; the most likely matches are displayed at the top of the list. The user may filter the results by typing filter text into the Likely Matches textbox. By default, licensable items are displayed but the user may use the Licensable toggle switch to display possible matches that are not licensable. Each possible match is shown on a Possible Matched Item tile:Software Teaching page: Possible Matched Item tileThe tile provides the following information about the possible matched item:

    • Licensable status
An icon is displayed at the top left of the tile showing whether the possible matched item is Licensable or Not Licensable; if the possible matched item is Licensable, the following icon is displayed:

The user may select from these three options to teach the unrecognised phrase(s) in the Selected Phrases pane to the item selected from the Possible Matched Items pane.

    These options are described below:

    Match program & version
Selecting this option will match the program and the version of the unmatched phrase to the product represented by the item selected.

    Match program any version
Selecting this option will match any version of the unmatched phrase to the product represented by the item selected. Please note: Ivanti advise using caution in using this option.

    Match program to new version
Selecting this option will display the Teach to New Version pop-up screen, which will allow the user to create a new version of the product represented by the item selected in the License Optimizer Software Library; the unmatched phrase will then be matched to this new product version.

When the user has selected the required Teaching Option, the user will be prompted to confirm that they wish to proceed with the teaching action; the Teaching Notification pane will be displayed:

Software Teaching page: Teaching Notification pane

This pane confirms the number of records that would be updated in License Optimizer and the number of phrases that would be taught if the user were to proceed with the teaching action. To proceed with the teaching action, the user should click the Continue button. To discontinue the teaching action, the user should click the Cancel button to return to the previous view.

Upon clicking the Continue button, the teaching action will be performed.

After all required teaching actions have been completed, the user must run the Recognition process for the data changes to be shown in the platform. The Recognition process may be run by clicking the Run Recognition button shown at the top right of the Software Teaching page.
