Riverbed Aternity Agent Application Control Exclusion List

    Introduction

    AMAppHook.dll loading into the Riverbed Aternity Agent processes causes the Aternity agent to shutdown due to a built-in fail safe mechanism.

     

    Detail

    AMAppHook.dll must be prevented from loading into any Aternity processes. The method of Injection and Exclusion differs between Application Manager versions, so the steps for each version is detailed below.

     

    Application Manager 8.9 and Later

    • Load the Application Manager Configuration via the AM Console
    • Select the “Manage” tab on the ribbon
    • Click “Advanced Settings”
    • Select the “Custom Settings” tab
    • Click “Add”
    • Select "DriverHookEx" and click on Add
    • In the Value Box add the following text:
      • a180ag.exe;a180cm.exe;a180ro.exe;a180ro64.exe;a180rs.exe;a180wd.exe;a180aa.exe;assistant.exe
    • Click on OK
    • Save and Deploy the Configuration to affected machines

     

    Application Manager 8.8

    • Load the Application Manager Configuration via the AM Console
    • Select the “Manage” tab on the ribbon
    • Click “Advanced Settings”
    • Select the “Custom Settings” tab
    • Click “Add”
    • Select "AppHookEx" and click on Add
    • In the Value Box add the following text:
      • a180ag.exe;a180cm.exe;a180ro.exe;a180ro64.exe;a180rs.exe;a180wd.exe;a180aa.exe;assistant.exe
    • Repeat the above for "UrmHookEx"
    • Click on OK
    • Save and Deploy the Configuration to affected machines

     

    Application Manager 8.0 - 8.7

    • Close the Application Manager Management Console if it is open
    • Open RegEdit on the machine with the Application Manager Console installed
    • Add the following two registry values (Case Sensitive).
      • Key: HKLM\Software\AppSense Technologies\Application Manager\Engineering
      • Value Name: AppHookEx
      • Value Type: REG_SZ
      • Value Data: a180ag.exe;a180cm.exe;a180ro.exe;a180ro64.exe;a180rs.exe;a180wd.exe;a180aa.exe;assistant.exe
      • Key: HKLM\Software\AppSense Technologies\Application Manager\Engineering
      • Value Name: UrmHookEx
      • Value Type: REG_SZ
      • Value Data: a180ag.exe;a180cm.exe;a180ro.exe;a180ro64.exe;a180rs.exe;a180wd.exe;a180aa.exe;assistant.exe
    • Open the Application Manager Console and load the Application Manager Configuration
    • Save the configuration (this will merge the above “Custom Settings” into the configuration)
    • Deploy the Configuration to the affected machine
    • Reboot the affected machine
