How to add a mapping to the Asset Data Processor's XML document schema
Step by Step:
NOTE: This writeup assumes you've already created a custom field on the destination CI or related Business Object (in the example given below the destination field "Tribbles" was added to CI.Computer prior to these steps).
Log in as admin role
Open the Asset Data Mapping workspace
Open the CI Type or related object that the custom field needs related to, in this example, CI.Computer
Click the Field Mappings tab, then New Asset Data Mapping Field button:
Fill in the destination Field Name, new XML property and Data Source and click save.
The custom mapping should now appear in the gridview:
Now go to the AdminUI (Configure Application). There is a cache mechanism in play for the Asset Processor service, this means we can either wait 10 or more minutes (get some coffee!) for the service cache to refresh, or for more immediate results, proceed to Cache Management and click "Remove All Cache Items" (then click Yes and OK):
Now you may go to your EPM or SCCM Import and the custom XML property should be available in the Field Mapping page:
Now you can map a source table and column to this XML property and import it through the Asset Processor via your custom XML property.
