Application Pools in IIS are stopping with unknown errors after applying KB973917

    After applying the Microsoft patch for KB973917, the LANDesk Core Server is not functional.

     

    After applying this update, the following behaviors have been seen as a result of IIS being non functional:

     

    IIS Application Pools are stopping at random times with Unknown Errors.

     

    Unable to Remote Control

     

    Service Unavailable errors when attempting to browse the LANDesk web services.

     

    Unspecified errors in the Application Pools.

    Solution:

     

    Microsoft's solution for this issue is to re-apply Service Pack 2 for Windows Server 2003.  Removing the KB 973917 update and then rebooting the core server has also resolved this issue.
