How can you trigger the "Detect whether reboot is needed"?

I create custom .exe install packages for our company and at times I'd like LANDesk to prompt to restart the computer when the package's exit code is 3010.

So far LANDesk returns the package is successfully installed with return code 3010 and description of "A restart is required to complete the install.." but no prompt on the user's side.

The Scheduled Task's Agent Settings/Reboot Settings are set to "Detect whether a reboot is needed".  If I change that to Always require a restart, it will prompt, but I would prefer it to only prompt when needed.

How does LANDesk actually detect a restart is needed?  Or does this feature only work with .MSI installers?

How do other's handle situations like this?
