sevich Mar 11, 2008 11:32 AM (in response to AmpCoder)1 of 1 people found this helpfulUnfortunately there isn't a way to do this that I know of. You would be dependant on the computers power supply being able to supply this information back to the motherboard.

AmpCoder Mar 11, 2008 11:37 AM (in response to sevich)Can LanDesk pick up the information about voltages and such that power supplies normally do supply the motherboard?

sevich Mar 11, 2008 11:44 AM (in response to AmpCoder)Yeah, I suppose as long as the power supply does provide this information it might be possible. Do you happen to know how it gets this info back to the board? WMI? IPMI?
You might be able to write a script that would go on your machines and put that info into custom data for the inventory scanner to pick up.

AmpCoder Mar 11, 2008 11:47 AM (in response to sevich)I have no idea how the info gets back to the motherboard. We use Dell desktops, laptops, and tablets, if that is of any help.

sevich Mar 11, 2008 11:49 AM (in response to AmpCoder)Yeah, we are also a Dell shop here, we use Optiplex and Latitude. I'm not aware of anything that monitors voltage on these power supplies. Are you using software that does this?

AmpCoder Mar 11, 2008 11:52 AM (in response to sevich)I do not know of any software that would allow me to view this information on these Dell computers. I just know from past experiences that there is software out there like this for certain motherboards/power supplies.

sevich Mar 11, 2008 11:55 AM (in response to AmpCoder)Yeah, I think your limitation here isn't going to LANDesk but rather Dell. I think I know what you're talking about though, like my home built machines and 3rd party motherboard usually have utilities that can monitor voltages and things like that. I haven't seen that a whole lot when it comes to OEM machines because they want to keep that stuff locked down.

ewhiteway Mar 11, 2008 1:03 PM (in response to AmpCoder)I know lenovo machines have some of this ability - IBM director (used to be free with the machine) used to report to me when voltages fell below the limit. It was handy as a sign the power supply was about to fail. I think it was just via WMI.

MarXtar Jul 2, 2008 2:31 PM (in response to ewhiteway)We don't monitor the power consumption but we do monitor the power state of the machines. Take a look at our free LANDesk plug-in called Power State Notifier Lite. Might help you get good visibility into how your systems are being used.
