Imaging issue with Precesion 690: error "-2147024893"

    Rookie

Hello I'm having an issue imaging a Precesion 690

I do not believe I have a driver issue because I can see the hard drive through diskpart and list disc. The problem I'm having is that the script is erroring out before it has a chance to image. Here is what the log says

I was wondering is this error is related to the size of the partition when the image was captured and the size of the HD that is being imaged.

For example. The image was created on an HD partition that was 100GB and was not scaled down. The size of the HD partition that is trying to be imaged is 80GB. I remeber this causing an issue before, but do not remember what the error # was.

      Any advice?

      Justin

Looks like you are failing to download the sysprep file. can you hit http://172.21.6.106/landesk/files/IS_P4_WXP_Prec690_Test_002.inf from a browser?

Well, two lines fail even though only one says it fails.

            "LD001372CC1652","OK",5,0:00:00,1/2/2008 2:55:02 PM,1/2/2008 2:55:02 PM,"diskpart /s X:\LDClient\assvol.txt"

            "LD001372CC1652","ERR_Fail",-2147024893,0:00:01,1/2/2008 2:55:02 PM,1/2/2008 2:55:03 PM,"sdclient /f /o /dest="C:\sysprep\sysprep.inf" /p="http://172.21.6.106/landesk/files/IS_P4_WXP_Prec690_Test_002.inf", STATUS"The first failure causes the second failure.

The first failure is running this command:

            diskpart /s X:\LDClient\assvol.txt

The result of "5" is a failure even though it says OK.  That command always return a non-zero status so we have to ignore status and so we don't catch a failure till  the next line which depends on it.

This command most commonly fails because you have a vendor partition as partition 1 and your C drive is really partition 2.  By default, we assign the C drive to partition 1.

Edit the script and look for an option under Image type and path that says (unfortunately this is very unclear and incorrect wording):

            Advanced option: Select partition
*Deploy image to this partition: [1]*

If you do have a vendor partition, then change that setting to a value of 2.

Any if you notice the second command:

            sdclient /f /o /dest="C:\sysprep\sysprep.inf" /p="http://172.21.6.106/landesk/files/IS_P4_WXP_Prec690_Test_002.inf"

It tries to download the sysprep.inf to the C: drive.  So if the C: drive was never properly assigned to a parition, of course you cannot download a file to that partition.

I checked my script and discovered that the patition was set for 1. I changed it to 2

              REMEXEC29=tokreplw X:\LDClient\assvol.txt partition=2

I reran the image/script and got the same error:

                1. Open assvol.txt with notepad.

                2. In WinPE open a command prompt.

                3. Run diskpart

You will get a diskpart prompt.

                4. Run each line from the assvol.txt one at a time.

                Which line fails?

                  I agree with Tracy.

The error code you see in the log file breaks down to a Microsoft error that says it could not copy the file (Error 3).  Let's check to see if you can access the file through a web browser.

You can test pretty easy in WinPE by running firefox from a share.

Firefox can run from a network share just fine (at least it could with firefox 1.x, I haven't really tried 2.x).  There may be a few initial errors that you can ignore, or not, I can't remember.

In WinPE open a command prompt and map a drive to the C$ of a workstation that has FireFox installed.  Then change to that drive and change to the <mapped drive:>\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox directory and run firefox.exe from the command prompt.

                    Try to download the file.

Where is sysprep installed to on the machine being imaged?  One thing to check in addition is that you installed sysprep to c:\sysprep and not to some other location.  If we are trying to download the file to a non-existent directory on the local drive that can cause problems as well.
