Why aren't you using the 16mb package (IE8-WindowsXP-x86-CHT.exe) instead of extracting the files? It'd be easier to transfer and run the single file from the workstation.
I just did this deployment myself, and used the Security and Patch Manager to detect the IE8 vulnerability, and then created a scheduled task to install. Worked well...
Thanks for your comments, Dataspike. I've tried using the IE8-WindowsXP-x86-CHT.exe package before but at the client side, the tasks manager in windows can show a process iesetup.exe but nothings gonna happen. What should I do? We don't have the license of Security and Patch Manager, so ...this method should not work for us.
If you have created a simple EXE distribution package, chances are you are just missing the command line switches to tell IE8-WindowsXP-x86-CHT.exe to install without user interaction.
Try creating the distribution package again, just this time use the "/quiet /log:%systemdrive%\IE8Install.log" command line switches to see if it actually works.
In Patch Manager, LANDesk is calling the single file .exe and passing the command:
/quiet /passive /norestart /update-no
You could try using Software Dist. to call the single .exe and pass it those commands and see if it works.
Thanks Dataspike! I'll try it today.
/quiet /log:%systemdrive%\log.txt or /quiet /update-no /norestart - Still not work!

I'm not on v9 yet, so I am not sure how much help I can be. But perhaps if you export the distribution package to an XML file and then upload it someone may be able to help you.
Have you checked that the target machine has the prerequisites for IE8 installed?
Another good reason for using patch manager to deploy it is it will check for these pre recs.
