My understanding is that you need to create a CI - for example called "Scheduled Backup" and then place it in the catalogue hierarchy where you want it to be.
Another question for you.
As CI items are actually service catalogue items, is there a recommended CI Type to create these under in the CMDB. For example, I noticed that the Service catalogue bundles tab in the 74 OOTB database only displays items associated to the CI Type of "Service". Is it recommended that all Service Catalogue Items be created under the "Services" CI Type and then use the hierarchy to categorise them? It seems like this would be one way of separating the CMDB from actual service catalogue items.
Or is it recommended that Service Catalogue Items span across multiple CI Types (Which seems slightly messy).
My recommendation is that you stick to using the Service CI for all services that you want to publish in the catalogue. As you rightly say, it can get messy. The other reasin for this is that if you stick to just using the Service CI you can start to link that to other things such as the categories and also SLA's. If you use many different CI types and make them services, it's not so easy to extend the usage.
Just to clarify, would you also recommend adding hardware and software catalogue items under the "Service" Config Type also?

Yes, I would. The reason is that the service is for the specific 'type' of hardware not the actual individual asset. So, you would have a service of Power Laptop let's say and then when that is requested, you would provide a specific Lenovo W510 Asset TAg 123412343. So the end user would end up having two CIs linked to their account. The service and the specific asset.
Hope that makes sense
It does Andy and also makes sense as to why the query on the bundle tab only returns Service CI Types. Thanks for the speed response.
Where a service is a modification, for example Active Directory name change, would you recommend managing this via the catalogue hierarchy or create a new Service Ci specifically for 'AD Name change'?
