    PXE Boot Representative side-by-side error

    Rookie

      LDMS 8.8 sp4

      I configured a Windows7 pc to be a PXE Boot Representative which appeared to install without any problems. After rebooting and review of the system services I found that the PXE services were not running. When trying to start the PXE Service I get a side-by-side error and the message below in the Event

      Viewer under Application. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem.

      Event ID 33

      Activation context generation failed for "E:\Program Files\LANDesk\PXE\System\pxemtftp.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

          Solved!

          After much research, this worked for me.

          Do the following:

          • Download and Install Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
          • Download and Install Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86
          • Make sure you get the updates (this is a must). They come down through MS updates although are optional for install.
          • If you've got the PXE Representative installed... Run the removal script, reboot and reload it.

          Good luck!
