    Unable to delete devices

    Rookie

Following the installation of sp2 onto LDMS v9.0 I am unable to delete devices from the console. I have upgraded the console and all the right click menus appear etc, but I cannot delete a device using any method either from a remote console or from the Landesk core server itself.. The console seems to process the request but the device does not get deleted. Any help in troubleshooting this  would be much appreciated.

I don't know of anything specific to SP2, but this normally means that there is a foriegn key in the database that is not getting handled by the delete code.  You can look in the console.exe.log file to see if an error got logged, or if there is nothing, take a SQL profiler trace and see when the console attempts to delete the computer out of the Computer table, what foreign key is causing the problem.   You can then delete the info from that other table and the delete should work properly.

This was happening to me today as a matter of fact. I ended up having to delete old client usage data from power management. Dont know if you use power management but its worth a shot if you do.

Sql Profiler doesnt show any errors, just see the delete statements going through. The console.exe.log shows the following error

02/02/2011 15:29:02 INFO  1244:Main Thread RollingLog : Critical Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

We arent using power mgmt at the moment, but have rolled it to one test machine, so how did you delete the Power mgmt data.

Under the Power Management section there is an icon that looks similar to a book with a chart on it. If you hover your cursor over it, it will say "Historical data". If you click on it a drop down appears and you simply select "Delete old client usage data" and tell it the range you want to delete.

Thanks for that, deleting the power management data seems to have done the trick but i hope I don have to do that on a regular basis as I will needto keep the power management data going forward. I think I may have to raise a support call.

LANDesk support has a patch for this issue.

Ask for patch DB-5236490.2 and it should take care of this issue.

I had same issue and it ended up being some fields created in SQL data base by LDclient. So if you ever used LD client from drop packakets or added some custom fields that is most likely what is hanging up the detention
