LANDesk 8.8 Software Distribution - An error occured processing the dependencies

    EJW Rookie

The software package runs fine and does everything it supposed to do and works like a charm but LANDesk always shows the error "An error occured processing the dependencies" and the console shows the task as failed.

      Some background information

There are no dependencies specified in the job and it is a single executable file.  Basically, I have a VB Script that copies some files from a network share to the local hard drive.  After the copy is complete (or errors out), the script then emails a bunch of people with the results.  Now because LANDesk doesn't allow scripts to run under the Currently Logged on User, I wrap the script up into an executable with INNO Setup and run it as an EXE.

The logging option from the executable returns this:

      2011-02-10 14:41:41.754   Log opened. (Time zone: UTC-03:30)

      Any suggestions?

I just received this same type of error, so a generous bump.  I am running 8.8 SP4 and the package is a EXE w/2 supporting files, and is being distributed via a policy based push at next logon, and is running as current user, NOT system.

We are seeing this a lot lately in LDMS 9.0 SP2 as well. Packages do not even have dependencies...

Do you see the same error code at the bottom?

Those are my last two lines. So yup.

                  Hi,

This might be one of those funny ones. In my experience about 10% of exe packages sends back an error level <> 0 when they are successful. So the task shows as failed. But, if the nonzero return code happens to be one of the ones that LANDesk itself uses, then it gets translated into the string for the error. I once had a package that returned "PXE Proxy Not Found".. because the programmer thought it cool to return his girlfriends cell phone number when successful (or whatever) .. and this happens to translate as a LDMS error code. If you are seeing an error that makes no sense, then consider this a remote possibility. The solution is to customize the error code mappings (LDMS 9) or write a batch file to translate the error code (pre LDMS 9) :-(

                  Regards

                  Ian

I've seen this also, specially on 8.8, not 9.0sp2

In our cases we have found that a file called sdclient.tasks.xml in the ldclient folder has been corrupt.

Try to view content of this file, if it looks like valid xml, you have another issues than we have experienced.

If it contains garbage or lots of whitespace, try to delete this file and retry deployment. In our case this has solved the "error processing dependencies" issues.

                    best regards,

We have found that restarting the common base agent service on the complaining devices fixes this a lot of the times. We're running 8.7 agents though, so may be an old hat with that.
