    Used to work, now it doesn't - Windows not Genuine - Activation

    cyberdemon Apprentice

      I am starting to see a problem with my unattend.xml and Windows "mini-setup" as I like to refer to it as.

      Refer to my earlier discussion as a point of reference. http://community.landesk.com/support/message/55300#55300

      I have changed nothing (other than time has passed) and what used to work flawlessly for me, is now giving me fits with the Windows Activation. Can anyone explain why I am seeing this? It appears that Activation is not happening before the "default" profile is shown to me after all the setup has finalized. I then see a cscript "DOS" box that performs the activation, but not after Windows has "blackend" the default background picture and popped up a box that wants to activate now or activate later. It then activates, but not after it has used the "scare" tacticts and changed the screen, and all I need to do is set the "default" screen back to the pretty background it once had before. If anyone has an idea, I would appreciate your thoughts. Attached is my unattend for my 64 bit Win 7 image (minus the key of course).

          try running c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs -ato after you set the key. That will force an activation right there on the spot

            Hi again EMiranda.

            I believe I do have it set that way in my .xml file, if you look at my post, right under setting the key, i also have what you suggested.

            <CommandLine>cscript //b c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk <

            removed for this example></CommandLine>

            <Order>1</Order>

            <RequiresUserInput>false</RequiresUserInput>

            </SynchronousCommand>

            <SynchronousCommand wcm:action="add">

            <CommandLine>cscript //b c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato</CommandLine>

            <Order>2</Order>

            <RequiresUserInput>false</RequiresUserInput>

            </SynchronousCommand>

            </FirstLogonCommands>

            Any other ideas? I was thinking, would it hurt if i put the c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato in there again at Pass 7 just to ensure it gets done? do it twice?

            I dunno, I'm just more irritated that now it's acting this way when it has been working perfect for the last month or two. Kind of makes it frustrating to explain this to others who rely on your image who reside in Germany and India and they ask questions about it. I mean it's really nothing, as the activation actually still works, but not before it makes changes and someone in Germany may look at this, and go "what the hell?

            I value your response.

              does your network go through a proxy or any proxy changes been made?

              can you run -ato after sysprep and it activates successful?

              i had these types of problems too, but we moved to KMS and life has been a breeze.

                No proxies here.

                It successfully registers, but not before Microsoft does what it does. It's more of an annoyance, more than it won't actually register.

                We may end up going that route some day.
